As 2024 comes to a close, we’re taking a moment to reflect on an incredible year for Athletes Meeting Excellence (AME). From celebrating the achievements of our alumni and players to forging new partnerships and creating unforgettable memories, this year has been one for the books.

We started 2024 with a bang, partnering with NBA legend Dominique Wilkins and AT&T for an activation leading up to NBA All-Star Weekend. This event helped shine a spotlight on our mission while building momentum for the exciting year ahead. In February, we cheered on Anthony Edwards during his second NBA All-Star appearance, a testament to his hard work and dedication to the game. Shortly after, we were honored to attend the Atlanta Hawks HBCU Night, where Rich Paul held an inspiring fireside chat about his book, Lucky Me, presented by Chase Bank.

In February, we also showed our support for AME alum Justin Eboigbe as he showcased his skills at the NFL Combine. Justin’s journey in 2024 was nothing short of inspiring. After undergoing neck surgery, he made a triumphant return for his final season with the Alabama Crimson Tide, leading the defense all the way to an opportunity at another national championship before falling to Michigan. His resilience earned him First-Team All-SEC honors and made him a finalist for the Comeback Player of the Year award. By April, Justin’s hard work paid off when he was drafted in the 4th round of the NFL Draft (Pick 105) by the Los Angeles Chargers. Soon after, Justin’s hometown of Forest Park celebrated him with a proclamation, and Mayor Angelyne Butler presented him with the key to the city. Justin’s high school also retired his jersey in a ceremony honoring his incredible achievements.

This summer, Anthony Edwards continued to cement his legacy by winning a gold medal at the Paris Olympics. Representing Team USA, Anthony demonstrated the perseverance and determination that inspire so many in our organization. Upon returning to Atlanta, he hosted his 4th annual youth camp, giving our younger athletes the unforgettable opportunity to catch passes from an Olympic champion. Moments like these remind us of the importance of dreaming big and staying focused.

Throughout the year, our high school athletes continued to excel, earning scholarships to some of the best colleges and universities in the nation. One standout is Dorian Barney, ranked as a top 7 cornerback in the nation. Dorian received over 40 scholarship offers and initially committed to the University of Alabama in May. While he reopened his recruitment in November, we couldn’t be prouder of his dedication and the bright future ahead. In December, Dorian led his high school team to the state championship in his junior year. Though they didn’t take home the title, his leadership on and off the field has been nothing short of remarkable.

December marked another proud moment for our organization as AME alum Ahmand Tate graduated from Savannah State University with a degree in Biology. Before transferring to Savannah State, Ahmand was part of the South Carolina State football team that won the 2021 HBCU National Championship in the Cricket Celebration Bowl. His dedication to both academics and athletics has always been exemplary. With plans to attend dental school and pursue his dream of becoming a dentist, Ahmand continues to inspire us. We can’t wait to see him achieve his goals and make a lasting impact in his field.

We’re equally proud of our student-athletes excelling off the court. Aubrey Easterling, a senior at Mercyhurst Prep in Erie, PA, is a two-sport athlete excelling in track and cross country as well as basketball. A shining example of academic excellence, she boasts a 4.5 GPA, has garnered several academic scholarship offers, and is strongly considering Howard University as her next step. Aubrey has also toured prestigious institutions like Georgetown, UCLA, Pepperdine, USC, and the University of Pennsylvania.

As 2024 progressed, we had many of our student-athletes graduate high school and college, while more enrolled in college and others pursued diverse endeavors.

Giving back to the community has always been at the heart of AME’s mission. This year, we continued our tradition of spreading joy with our 4th Annual Toy Giveaway at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta’s Arthur Blank Hospital. In addition, AME provided pregame meals for middle school athletic teams, ensuring underprivileged kids had the opportunity to enjoy a nutritious meal before their games. These efforts reflect our commitment to uplifting the next generation and creating opportunities both on and off the field.

On December 16th, AME distributed hundreds of toys at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Arthur Blank Hospital, spreading holiday cheer and brightening the lives of young patients.

We also expanded our philanthropic impact by making a significant donation to the Harold and Carol Pump Foundation, which funds critical cancer research. While attending the foundation’s gala, we had the privilege of reconnecting with longtime AME friends and basketball icons Allen Iverson and Oscar Robertson, as well as other notable guests who share our vision of giving back.

These milestones serve as a testament to the power of community and the enduring relationships we’ve built over the years. Whether through spreading holiday cheer, supporting youth sports, or contributing to life-changing causes, AME remains steadfast in our mission to inspire and empower. As we close the chapter on an incredible 2024, we are excited for the future and the opportunities it holds to make an even greater impact.

As we look ahead to 2025, we’re excited to see what our athletes will accomplish next. To all our partners, supporters, and families—thank you for being part of the AME journey. Here’s to another year of excellence, growth, and impact!

Stay tuned for more updates, and let’s keep building together!

Sincerely,

The AME Team
